Pole Dance Motivation - Where and What is Your Motivation?

Motivation. It’s a word we often hear, but what does it really mean? Where does it come from? How can we harness it, especially when it seems to slip through our fingers?

In my daily life, I ask myself these questions a lot. Some days, motivation feels like a loyal companion, and everything flows smoothly. On other days, it seems to vanish, leaving me feeling tired and uninterested, just longing for quality couch time. Especially during these tough periods, I find myself thinking deeply and reading extensively about motivation.

Discovering the Secret: Motivation Comes Through Action

One profound realization I’ve had is that motivation often comes through action. No matter how exhausted, tired, or unmotivated I feel, once I push myself to get up and head to the studio, the motivation follows. It’s like magic – just starting the warm-up, putting on some energizing tunes, and moving can reignite my drive. It’s incredible how quickly my mood can shift from lethargy to enthusiasm once I’m in motion.

Understanding Your Source of Motivation

But where does your motivation come from? Understanding this is crucial because motivation has two primary sources: intrinsic and extrinsic.

  1. Intrinsic Motivation: This comes from within. It’s the joy you feel while engaging in an activity, the personal satisfaction and fulfillment. For instance, the pure pleasure you get from dancing, the way it makes you feel alive and free.

  2. Extrinsic Motivation: This comes from external rewards, such as awards, medals, recognition, or praise. While these can be powerful motivators, they often aren’t sustainable in the long run. Once the external rewards are gone, what’s left to drive you?

Why Intrinsic Motivation Matters More

Intrinsic motivation tends to last longer because it’s deeply connected to your inner desires and passions. When you tap into this internal wellspring, you find a more enduring source of drive. Ask yourself: Why did you start pole dance? How did it make you feel in the beginning? Reconnecting with those initial feelings can help rekindle your intrinsic motivation.

Making Motivation a Habit

Most importantly, just get up and make it a habit. Set a specific time for your training and stick to it. The key is consistency. Even when motivation seems absent, the act of doing itself can spark it.

Remember, motivation often follows action, not the other way around. By committing to your routine and showing up, you create a positive cycle where effort leads to motivation, which in turn fuels more effort.

Final Thoughts

So, next time you’re feeling unmotivated, remember this: Motivation will come by doing. Embrace the power of action, reconnect with your intrinsic motivations, and let the journey itself inspire you. You’ve got this!
